1998 Summit Series
February 25 to March 8
From February 25 to March 8, 1998, Team Canada and Team Finland, the world's two ringette powerhouses, did tour Europe in a promotional Summit Series. The 1998 International Ringette Summit Series promises to be an exciting showcase of the world's best! In previous international competitions, Team Canada's only loss has been at the hands of Finland.
For the first time, Team Canada was a truly national team with athlete representation from each province and the Northwest Territories.
The Summit Series tour did include stops in Finland, Sweden, Germany and France.

Final Result Finland Juniors 9 Canada 7
Canada got 2 goals from Shelley Reynolds and singles from Sue Coggles, Renée Virc, Jodeen Canning, Cara Brown and Lisa Brown in a losing cause. With the game tied 4-4 at the end of the second period, Finland scored 2 quick third period goals. Canada got into penalty trouble attempting a comeback, and Finland scored 3 power play goals in the 3rd. Finland Juniors won 9-7.

The Finnish team dominated Canada in the First game of the European Summit Series.
Finland scored 11 second period goals in a game during which Canada could not get going. Goal scorers for Canada - Shelley Reynolds with two, Lisa Brown with two and Tina Pineau with one.

Shelley Reynolds and Lisa Brown scored 3 goals each which Cara Brown and Sue Coggles each scored 1 as Canada rebounded to beat Finland 8-7 in overtime. The Series is now tied at one.

18h00.

Amanda Snell stopped 4 of 5 Finland shooters in an overtime shootout. After 3 periods of play the game was tied at 10-10. Sue Coggles and Maria McKenzie scored for Canada in the shootout. Other goal scorers for Canada: Shelley Reynolds (3), Sarah Miller (2), Tina Pineau, Maria McKenzie, Renée Virc, Lisa Brown and Sue Coggles.

Finland wins Ringette 1998 Summit Series 3-2.
Team Finland beat Canada 10-8 in the 5th and deciding game of the European "Summit Series". Canada fell behind 5-0 in the first period and 8-2 in the second, but showed a lot of character to fight back to within 2 goals.
Goal scorers for Canada: Shelley Reynolds (2), Renée Virc, Sue Coggles, Maria McKenzie (2), Sarah Miller, Lisa Brown.
This Series between the two best teams in the World displayed ringette at it's best and has sparked great interest at stops in Germany, France, Sweden and France. Team Canada returns home on Monday.
